M45 Automotive is an independent Subaru specialist in Auburn, CA. They're not a franchise. They don't have a dealership ad budget. But they rank #1-2 for keywords with up to 8,100 monthly searches — beating AutoNation Subaru and Gold Rush Subaru across the board. And the new site hasn't even launched yet.
M45 Automotive is an independent Subaru specialist in Auburn, California. They do everything from routine maintenance to performance builds and engine rebuilds. Subaru owners travel from across the Sacramento region for their work — but when someone searched 'subaru repair near me', M45 was nowhere.
Their old website was built on Weebly. It looked dated, loaded slowly, and gave Google almost nothing to work with. Meanwhile, two Subaru dealerships — AutoNation Subaru Roseville and Gold Rush Subaru — dominated the search results with the kind of domain authority and content budgets that independent shops can't match.
Outranking dealerships as an independent shop sounds like a mismatch. Dealerships have larger sites, bigger budgets, manufacturer backing, and years of established domain authority. But they also have a weakness: they're generalists. They service everything. An independent Subaru specialist has a focus advantage — if the website communicates that focus to Google.
We rebuilt m45automotive.com from scratch, replacing the Weebly template with a custom-coded site on a Bootstrap framework. The focus was speed, clean markup, and structuring the content so Google understood exactly what M45 specializes in.
This isn't even the final version. The current site is the first rebuild — a new iteration with deeper service pages and expanded content is in progress. These results are from the foundation alone.
M45 now ranks for 37 of 45 tracked keywords, with 31 in the top 3. The majority are local pack positions — the map results that appear above organic listings on mobile, where most 'near me' searches happen.
The most compelling result isn't any single keyword — it's the head-to-head record against Subaru dealerships with significantly larger online footprints.
M45 wins 19 of 21 shared keywords. AutoNation only leads on 'subaru wheel alignment' and 'subaru oil change near me' — two keywords where dedicated service pages would close the gap. On every repair, maintenance, mechanic, and specialist keyword, the independent shop outranks the dealership.
M45 wins 21 of 25 shared keywords. Gold Rush only leads on 'subaru ac service', 'subaru certified repair shop near me', 'subaru service coupons auburn', and 'subaru oil change near me'. On every core repair and specialist search, M45 ranks higher.
Dealerships are generalists with Subaru pages. M45 is a specialist with a Subaru-only website. Google understands the difference. When the entire site — every page, every meta description, every heading — signals 'Subaru specialist', it outweighs a single Subaru page buried in a multi-brand dealership site. Topical authority beats domain authority when the topic is narrow enough.
Here's the part that makes these results remarkable: 36 of 37 ranked keywords are being served by the homepage. The only other page ranking is /services/alignments with one keyword. That means almost all of this performance is coming from a single page and a strong Google Business Profile.
27 of 37 rankings are local pack positions — the map results that appear at the top of mobile search results. This is the most valuable real estate for a local service business. When someone searches 'subaru repair near me' on their phone, M45 appears in the map pack at #1 with reviews, phone number, and directions.
A new iteration of the site is in progress with dedicated service pages for alignments, brakes, engine rebuilds, transmission, performance, and maintenance. If a single homepage can rank for 37 keywords with 31 in the top 3, dedicated pages targeting those same terms should push the remaining #2 positions to #1 and capture the 8 keywords where M45 doesn't rank yet.
