Riley Mountain Motorsports: Rebuilding an Off-Road Parts Store on Shopify

Riley Mountain Motorsports bought the assets and product line of RuffStuff Specialties. They got more than a known name in off-road fabrication. They also inherited a huge catalog of products. This catalog needed new organization, fresh updates, and a clean launch under their own brand.

The main task was turning hundreds of custom off-road parts into an easy online shop. At the same time, we needed to build a storefront that would be simple to maintain and expand.

Boas Digital Solutions helped Riley Mountain Motorsports rebuild its Shopify site. We restructured the full product list, cleaned up old descriptions, and fixed the search engine optimization (SEO) details.

The Challenge: Hundreds of Products, One New Brand

RuffStuff Specialties spent years building a large collection of parts for off-roaders, welders, and custom vehicle builders. When inventory moved to Riley Mountain Motorsports, the new owners needed a site that matched their brand. It also had to make finding heavy-duty parts fast and clear.

Off-road parts stores are different from normal retail shops. Buyers search for parts by specific build types, part categories, and exact uses. Sorting these products takes much more work than just throwing them into a few basic groups.

The old Shopify account held 754 active items. It had mixed product types, outdated collections, and old brand names scattered across item descriptions and search tags.

We set three main goals for this project:

  • Build a clean, clear online shop design that fits the new Riley Mountain Motorsports brand image.

  • Sort the whole catalog into clean categories so customers can browse without getting lost or confused.

  • Remove old business names, fix internal web links, and clean up product content and SEO tags.

The Solution: A Modern Storefront Built on Shopify Horizon

We chose not to build a completely custom store theme from scratch. Instead, we used Shopify's Horizon theme as the main framework for the new site.

This plan let us build a unique look using standard Shopify sections and settings. It kept custom coding low, which keeps the site working smoothly whenever Shopify releases updates.

We built the storefront on Horizon version 4.1.3. Then we built a clear visual layout using custom theme options and one lightweight style file.

The store design uses clean lines with red accents, sharp square corners, and soft borders. We used dark top menus and dark footers to frame light product pages. This layout puts full attention on the parts themselves.

Putting Product Discovery First

Changing the main homepage structure was one of our biggest tasks on this site rebuild.

Many online stores fill their main page with big sales ads. Instead, we placed main product groups right near the top of the page. Visitors can start shopping for parts right away without scrolling past huge picture banners.

We also built a large drop-down main menu with main product groupings.

Our goal was direct. We wanted to help customers find exact fabrication parts with fewer clicks.

Improving Product Pages

We gave every item page a cleaner layout. This included an updated image gallery with a sliding picture viewer and small thumbnails placed underneath.

We also tuned up small visual details across the store. We fixed stock status badges, order form notes, fonts, and page spacing.

These adjustments created a smooth shopping flow from the main page down to individual item pages.

Reorganizing a 754-Product Catalog

Designing the look of the store was only half the job. The full list of products needed major cleanup before the new menus could work well.

Our team checked all 754 active items and fixed their Shopify Product Type labels. During this check, we found and fixed capital letter errors that split similar items into separate groups.

Next, we built new store collections using clear and uniform product tags across the entire inventory.

Restructuring the catalog involved several key steps:

  • Building and launching 78 fresh product collections across the store.

  • Setting up 86 active collections across the full website inventory.

  • Checking that every active part belonged to at least one collection group.

  • Deleting 15 old collection pages and adding 301 web redirects so old links still work.

  • Clearing out old internal tags that came over from the former shop owner.

Once the product groups were organized, we connected these new collections directly into the main drop-down site menu.

This gave the business a clean catalog with navigation built around how off-road builders actually shop for parts.

Cleaning Up Legacy Content and SEO

Moving from RuffStuff Specialties to Riley Mountain Motorsports meant reviewing all written product content line by line.

Names from the old business appeared across item titles, body copy, page headers, and meta descriptions. Many items also pointed to old web pages on the previous store's website.

We updated 730 item entries across the store. We removed old company names and swapped out 67 dead external links with working internal site links.

Our SEO cleanup also standardized page titles, cut out unnecessary brand tags, and fixed duplicate search text.

These updates gave the new brand a solid base for search engine visibility and ongoing store growth.

Keeping the Storefront Maintainable

A top priority throughout this project was keeping the online store easy to update in the future.

Shopify has strong built-in code, but heavy custom edits can make site updates hard down the road. For a growing shop, those fix-it costs can waste time and money.

We relied on core Horizon tools, central design controls, and one extra style file to keep theme changes lightweight.

The finished store code passed the official Shopify Theme Check test with zero errors or warnings.

This approach gave Riley Mountain Motorsports a custom feel without complex custom coding or risky add-ons.

The Result: A Stronger Foundation for E-commerce

The new Riley Mountain Motorsports online store launched on August 4, 2026.

The project did far more than change how the site looks. It built a clean site design, sorted a huge catalog of off-road parts, and cleared out outdated content.

An online shop for specialty auto parts must do more than display nice photos. It must make technical parts easy to find, offer a smooth checkout, and run reliably as inventory grows.

The Riley Mountain Motorsports store rebuild shows how smart catalog management and clean Shopify setup work together. With solid technical SEO, an inherited product list becomes a reliable online shop.
